The Diploma is a 720 guided learning hours qualification, equivalent in size to two A-Levels. The final grade is a two-part grade such as MM, DM or D*D*, usually taken over two years alongside one A-Level or another course.

Quick answer A BTEC Level 3 Diploma grade is calculated by converting each unit grade into Pearson points, adding those points together, then comparing the total with the Diploma grade boundaries (720 GLH).

How the Diploma grade is calculated

Every BTEC unit has a GLH size. Larger units are worth more Pearson points at the same grade, so a Distinction in a 120 GLH unit counts more than a Distinction in a 60 GLH unit.

Unit Size (GLH) Pass Merit Distinction
60 GLH61016
90 GLH91524
120 GLH122032
