BTEC to UCAS points: the full tariff table

Every BTEC Level 3 grade converted to UCAS tariff points, for all five qualification sizes, with the A-Level totals they match.

These are the official UCAS tariff values for BTEC Nationals (RQF, 2016 onwards). The new BTEC Nationals (AAQ) introduced from September 2025 carry identical points to the old qualifications of the same size, so the tables below cover both.

Mixing qualifications UCAS points add together across qualifications. A Distinction Extended Certificate (48) plus BB at A-Level (80) is 128 points, the same total as DDM in an Extended Diploma. Universities can still ask for specific grades rather than points, so always check the course page.

FAQ: BTEC UCAS points

How many UCAS points is a BTEC Extended Diploma worth?

Between 48 points (PPP) and 168 points (D*D*D*). The most commonly quoted grades are DDD at 144 points (equal to AAA at A-Level), DDM at 128 and DMM at 112.

Is DDM equivalent to ABB?

In UCAS tariff terms, yes. DDM in an Extended Diploma is 128 points, the same total as ABB at A-Level (48 + 40 + 40).

Do the new BTEC AAQs have different UCAS points?

No. The BTEC Nationals (AAQ) that started teaching in September 2025 carry identical UCAS points to the old RQF versions of the same size: D* = 56, D = 48, M = 32, P = 16 for the Extended Certificate.

Can I combine BTEC and A-Level UCAS points?

Yes. UCAS points from different qualifications add together. An Extended Certificate at Distinction (48) plus two A-Levels at BB (40 + 40) totals 128 points. Universities may still specify grades rather than points, so check the course entry requirements.

Do GCSEs or Level 2 BTECs carry UCAS points?

No. The UCAS tariff only applies to Level 3 qualifications such as BTEC Nationals, A-Levels and T-Levels. GCSEs and BTEC Firsts (Level 2) carry no tariff points.
